China's energy storage network: according to media reports, India's new energy and renewable energy department is planning a one-off bid for 20 gigawatts of solar power.
The final details of the proposed tender are still under consideration, but the aim is to stimulate production of domestic solar cell components and further reduce the cost of solar power.
Despite ambitious goals and supportive policies, India is far from being able to generate enough solar power.
India plans to install 100 gigawatts of solar power by March 2022.
As of September 30, 2017, the installed capacity is just over 14.7 gigawatts.
So in the remaining four years and six months, an additional 85 gigawatts would be needed.
While a lot of capacity is already in the pipeline, there is still a lot of capacity to be allocated.
To achieve the goal of 100 gigawatts, India will increase electricity by about 1.6 gigawatts per month between October 2017 and March 2022.
India has never seen the growth of its solar or other renewable energy technologies.
Between April and September 2017, India added only 2.5 gigawatts of solar power, or 413 megawatts a month.
Initially, the government plans to build 40 gigawatts from a rooftop solar system.
But recognizing that the rooftop market does not enjoy the penetration and economic benefits of utility scale projects, the government has returned to the utility scale of solar power projects.
The goal of increasing capacity through solar power parks is to increase from 20 gigawatts to 40 gigawatts.
The 20-megawatt auction under discussion is likely to be in the solar power park program itself.
Several state governments have identified a total of 2 billion kilowatts of land, and Indian solar companies will be bidding for projects in the near future.
The extra 20mw solar power park may soon be working.
Details of the bid will be released and the bidding project may be phased in, according to the report.
India's largest solar bid to date has a capacity of 2 gigawatts.
