China's energy storage net news: cape Verde islands on the northwest coast African countries announced that will be implemented in 2025 all electricity from renewable energy, it is part of the cape Verde sustainable energy development.
Cape Verde is made up of 10 islands, some 600 kilometers west of Senegal, of which nine are inhabited islands.
Almost all of the island's 550,000 residents have access to electricity, but about a third still rely on firewood and charcoal for cooking.
Per capita electricity consumption per person in cape Verde is 727 kilowatt-hours per person, much higher than the average annual power consumption of 488 kilowatt-hours per person in sub-saharan Africa.
But the price of cape Verde is very high, and in recent years local electricity prices have been between $0.26 and $0.32, compared with an average of $0.13 for American residents.
Although most of its electricity is produced by generators that import petroleum products, cape Verde has begun to diversify its energy portfolio.
Currently, a quarter of cape Verde is provided by renewable energy.
It is estimated that from 2015 to 2020, the annual consumption of cape Verde will almost double from 36 billion kilowatt-hours to 670 million kilowatt-hours.
With cutting-edge technology and innovative business practices, cape Verde can achieve its goal of 100% renewable energy power in a cost-effective and equitable manner.
A team of researchers suggests that systems based on solar, wind and energy storage (such as batteries and pumping electricity) can meet cape Verde's goals.
