OXIS energy has announced that it has successfully developed a Lithium sulfur battery with an energy density of 425Wh/kg, and is now being introduced to HAPS satellites. The company aims to have an energy density of 500Wh/kg by the end of 2019.
Currently, the battery pack energy density for this battery is 300Wh/kg, with a target of 400Wh/kg by the end of 2019.
The batteries are mainly used in areas such as large drones. In the future, if you want to apply in the field of electric vehicles, there are still some problems to be solved, including inquiry of cycle life, power output, charging time and so on.But OXIS has now secured a LiSFAB funding program that aims to provide battery power, cycle life and other aspects of performance, and a breakthrough may lead to a significant increase in battery energy density in future vehicles.
