The Researchers Added Phosphorus And Sulfur To The Electrolyte Or Tripled The Range

New research at the university of Waterloo will lead to a breakthrough in battery research and development, tripling the mileage of electric cars, foreign media reported.The breakthrough includes a negative electrode made of lithium metal, which could significantly boost the battery's energy storage.

Takes charge of the research project, the university of Waterloo institute PhD Quanquan Pang said: "the technology breakthrough means that the price of the future batteries will become cheaper, safer and last longer life, improve user electric life mileage."

An increase in energy storage or energy density will increase the mileage of electric vehicles from 200 kilometers to 600 kilometers.In creating the technology, Pang and his colleagues had to overcome two technical challenges.

First, in the process of repeated charging and discharging, the microstructure of the lithium metal will change, or it will cause the battery to catch fire or guarantee.Secondly, when the battery reacts with chemical reaction, it can cause corrosion and restrict the performance of the electrode, thus affecting its use time.

The researchers added phosphorus and sulfur and other chemicals to the electrolyte of the battery and overcame both of these problems.The chemical will react with a lithium metal electrode in the battery, and the researchers have coated the battery electrode with a thin layer of protection.

This method improved the battery performance, play the advantages of lithium metal electrodes,improve the battery energy storage capacity, without sacrificing security or reduce the battery life under thepremise of considerably increase the battery life mileage.
